Being a breastfeeding mom, I know how important it is to make sure you’ve got protection for your clothing – especially in the first few months of breastfeeding. I used Lansinoh disposable nursing pads for the first three months at least – even at home! I was always protected as long as I had these ultra thin, super absorbent pads in place. They are now new and improved and even softer than when I was using them! I have a 36 count box of individually wrapped New & Improved Disposable Nursing Pads up for grabs!

To enter: Just leave me a comment. It’s that simple! You can tell me something about your breastfeeding experience or if you’re pregnant and have never nursed before, tell me something you’re concerned about… I am a Medela Mom Maven and would be glad to answer any questions or concerns you might have. Or just tell me what you’re looking forward to!

Elizabeth is eight months, 9 days old today and this evening is the first time I attempted to give her solids. She is EBF so technically she doesn’t need any solids until 1 year of age. I was going to wait until Thanksgiving dinner, but she kept reaching for my dinner so I got out a little bit of unsweetened apple sauce and gave her a bite. She did not like it at all! She made the funniest face. I wish I had taken a picture. She was perfectly happy to wash that taste away by nursing for a few minutes. I guess we’ll try something different on Thanksgiving. Nana is going to make her a sweet potato – cooked and mashed – so we shall see how she responds to that.

Being a breastfeeding mom I have read all about different supplements to increase milk supply – from Fenugreek alone to a mixture of different herbs served in liquid or pill form, such as More Milk Plus. I was looking around to see what the prices are on things like this because my cycle returned earlier this month and I’ve heard that milk supply can take a dip during that time of the month. I first looked at Motherlove.com because that is the brand name of the MMP drops. Well, let me tell you it was expensive just for the 2 ounce bottle! So I proceeded to look around and came across Lucky Vitamin. I was happy to see that their prices are a great deal more competitive. I ordered a 2 ounce bottle of More Milk Special Plus to try out. I’ll post a review of how well it works after I’ve tried it. =) If you’re looking for supplements for an increase in milk supply or simply for vitamins, Lucky is the way to go.

Don’t miss out on two very important work shops at Babies R Us. The first is breastfeeding 101 sponsored by Medela. It’s on Tuesday, October 20th at 6:30 pm. The second is Buckle Up & Boogie car seat work shop sponsored by Britax. So many people do not take car seat safety seriously enough. If you think you might need to learn a thing or two, or you know someone that does, please make it a point to get to Babies R Us on Tuesday, October 27th at 6:30 pm.

I’ve been invited to become a Medela Mom Maven! What is that, you ask? A breastfeeding ambassador to share knowledge about the many benefits of breastfeeding, as well as breastfeeding advice, with other moms and moms-to-be. How exciting!

I can’t believe I forgot to post the very best breastfeeding site there is on the internet! Kellymom has everything you could ever want or need to know about breastfeeding. Think your milk supply is low? Go to Kellymom to find out if you’re right and what you can do about it. Wondering if there’s a specific way to bottle feed your breastfed baby? The answers are there at Kellymom. Want to know what kind of medication is safe during breastfeeding? Head on over to Kellymom.
And since I’m on the topic of medications – and I’m currently sick with some horrid sinus/upper respiratory infection and a nursing mom – let me just bring something to your attention. VERY IMPORTANT: Even though a medication may be “safe” to use while breastfeeding you have to keep something in mind – if you take something to dry you up (runny nose, etc) it is very possible that it will dry up your milk supply too. In most cases it is better to use a sinus rinse kit or Netty Pot instead of messing with your milk supply. And yes.. continue to breastfeed even if you’re sick. It helps pass along the antibodies to your baby to help him/her fight the infection.

Lilypadz silicone reusable nursing pads are the greatest nursing pads available these days. I got so tired of buying new disposables and tired of washing the cotton reusable pads because you can’t put them in the dryer. Lilypadz don’t absorb leaks, they actually stop leaks from ever happening. There isn’t a better nursing pad out there! The best part is that I found them for an awesome price at Health Check Systems. They are only $16.00 instead of paying $19.95 at most other retail stores. Plus if you use PROMO CODE: SHACK you get an additional 5% off.

How do Lilypadz work?
LilyPadzs unique design works on the age-old principle that pressure on the nipple (like a finger) temporarily stops breast milk leakage, LilyPadz keep that pressure constant, even in the absence of a bra. So instead of absorbing your milk, LilyPadz prevents you from leaking altogether! LilyPadz are so thin you no longer have to worry about them showing through your shirt or bra. You can even wear them swimming! They can be used and re-used as much as you like.

It’s funny how breastfeeding is supposed to be the most natural thing in the world, yet so many women are not successful. How can something so natural be so hard? Well, let me tell you.. it took me four attempts and I am finally a breastfeeding success story! Now that I have been educated and have experience, I can say that once you get passed the first month.. it’s all smooth sailing. Yes, newborn babies DO EAT EVERY HOUR. It’s normal. There’s nothing wrong with you. Your milk supply is just fine. In fact, the reason newborn babies nurse so often is because it’s their way (nature’s way) of telling your body how much milk you need to start producing.
Interested in learning more? Need advice? Need support? Check out the very best breastfeeding support forum around. If it wasn’t for these ladies, I may not have been successful this time around. You don’t have to post anything if you don’t want. Heck, I learned so much just from lurking on the board and reading other moms questions and how the ladies answered. You won’t be sorry.. if you are having any breastfeeding issues or are doubting yourself in any way. Go.. and go now!
